Installing a Vortex Valve™ on your Detroit Diesel® Series 50 is as easy as 1,2,3.

Step 1

Detroit Diesel® Series 50 install step 3 Make sure the engine is off. Always wear gloves when working on machinery that is not running. Detroit Diesel step 1a Using a 7/16" deep well we loosened the clamp on the right side of the engine. On the other side we used an 18" extension and a universal and then the 7/16" deep-well, where it holds the air intake duct to the manifold.


Step 2

Detroit Diesel® Series 50 install step 3 Detroit Diesel step 2a Remove the air intake duct and insert the Vortex Valve™ in the duct with the flat side facing the engine like the picture at the right.


Step 3

Detroit Diesel® Series 50 install step 3 Replace the air intake duct starting with the manifold side (it's on the left, pictured above in Step 2). Tighten that clamp and then replace the other end and tighten that clamp (pictured in Step 3). This Detroit Diesel® series 50 is ready for the open freeway or wall-to-wall city traffic with standing room only. This bus pulls into traffic quicker (0 to 20 MPH in 7 seconds), pollutes less (lower soot content in the oil), lower heavy metal deposits in the oil and extra mileage too. Installing a Vortex Valve™ will do all that. Lowering pollution saves lives. Using less fuel to do the same things makes sense.
