Installing a Vortex Valve™ on your Donna's Cherokee is as easy as 1,2,3.
Step 1
Make sure the engine is off. Always wear gloves when working on machinery that is not running. Using a flathead screwdriver we loosened the clamp where it holds the air intake duct to the air box which is connected to the throttle body at its base.
Step 2
We removed the air duct where it is connected to the air box. There is a vacuum connection on driver's side and a bolt on the passenger side of the air box, at its base - it's probably a 10mm - and a clamp at its base that need to be loosened or disconnected. Flat-head screwdriver.
Loosen the base clamp, shown at right. Remove the air box. There will be a rubber gasket - it will have the clamp around it. After the air box is removed, this gasket will either be on the air box or on the neck of the throttle body. Isolate it, like the picture at the left and Install a 4309-5C Vortex Valve™ in the joint in the rubber gasket, like the picture at the left. Expand the Vortex Valve™ until it fits comfortably in the gasket. Replace the gasket over the lip of the air box where it connects to the throttle body. The Vortex Valve™ will slide right up inside the opening of the air box. Make sure the clamp is loosened a few more turns before replacing. It is also helpful to run a bead of thick lubricant around the inside of the gasket to help it over the lip of the throttle body. We used Vaseline®
Step 3
Replace the air box. Gently rock it into position. Remember, there's a bolt and a grommet on the passenger side of the air box. Make sure the holes line up. Then, tighten the clamp on the bottom - almost all the way. Flat-head screwdriver. Reconnect the vacuum line and replace and tighten the bolt with grommet on the passenger side of the air box. Reconnect the air intake duct to the air box and tighten the clamp. Retighten base clamp. You are ready for the open road or wall-to-wall traffic with plenty of extra power and response and great mileage too.
